Marina learned basic sewing skills as a child, and was an accomplished seamstress while still in high school. Shortly after her twenty-first birthday she joined the upscale clothing retailer Men’s Warehouse, where for seven years she altered bespoke quality suits to look their best on the store’s knowledgeable and demanding clientele. Here her superb tailoring skills and outgoing personality soon earned her a base of repeat customers, and she learned what customer service is all about.
In 1996, she followed the American Dream and opened CTA Tailor shop in the Memorial area on the west side of Houston. Business was good and all was going well until 2007 when a close relative was diagnosed with a devastating, life-changing illness. Marina sold the business to be able to take on the role of primary caregiver.
In 2009, she was able to resume her career, and became the first ever woman tailor to work in the men’s department at Nordstrom’s, the high end retailer in the Galleria Mall.
In 2013, she was offered the opportunity to buy Country Cleaners, a combination laundry / alterations business in Katy. Here Marina focused all of her considerable skills on developing a reputation for the highest quality workmanship. The degree to which she has succeeded was quantified by one satisfied customer who commented, “Here every garment is treated as if it is destined for royalty!”
